DARK CITY 2008 - ANNOUNCEMENT

23rd March 2008

After much deliberation, we regret to announce that there will be no Dark City festival in 2008.

Unfortunately, the costs of putting on events of this scale are such that it cannot be achieved without substantial personal financial input on our part, which, contrary to popular belief, we have never made back. We hope you will appreciate that this is something we can simply no longer afford to continue doing. In addition, there is also the many months of preparation and organision required, which again is something that is proving increasingly harder to commit to.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the bands that have performed in the past, the many people who have freely helped us with various tasks and obviously all the people who have supported the festival by attending and hopefully enjoying it!

This is not to say there won't be a festival in the future - it remains our hope to stage another credible festival in the UK at some future point, alongside those already existing, should circumstances change.

CHANGE OF VENUE- UPDATE

30th April 2007

Further to our previous announcement, we are pleased to advise that all revised venues for this year’s Dark City Festival have been now been confirmed.

Friday’s event will now take place at Studio 24, Calton Road. Doors open 7.00PM, with the first band on at 7.30PM. After the headline band has finished (11.00PM), an after show event will be held at Nicol Edwards, Niddry Street, until 3.00AM.

As previously advised, the venue for Saturday and Sunday is The Caves, Niddry Street South. Doors open at 4.00PM (first band on at 5.00PM) and the venue will remain open until 3.00AM on both nights.

Full details regarding both venues can be found on the Event Info pages.

Inevitably, when faced with having to change venues at short notice, a number of logistical changes are forced upon us. In particular, an issue affecting Saturday and Sunday is that the event can no longer feature two separate stages as previously advertised – if only because the venue only has one main auditorium. Instead, we shall be running all bands from a single stage. As the original plan was to alternate bands so that no two were playing at the same time, this simply means that there will be a shorter interval between bands on the main stage. ALL BANDS WILL BE APPEARING AS ADVERTISED AND WILL PLAY THE SAME LENGTH SETS AS ORIGINALLY INTENDED.

As previously stated, we know that the uncertainty regarding the venue for this year’s festival will have been unsettling, particularly for those travelling from outside Edinburgh who have made arrangements based upon the original location. We regret and apologise for any inconvenience caused. However, having said that, we are genuinely confident that taking into account the quality of the revised venues and their proximity both to each other and the original venue, your enjoyment of this year’s festival will not be compromised.

CHANGE OF VENUE

27th April 2007

As some of you may be aware, issues have arisen with our usual venue, Teviot Row House, which now make it impossible for us to host this year's event there as originally advertised.

In view of this we have been hard at work to secure suitable alternative venues for the event and can now confirm that on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May, the event will move to The Caves, Niddry Street South. For full details please visit the Event Info page.

At time of writing, we are still awaiting final confirmation for the location of Friday's event. However, we can tell you that proceedings are at an advanced stage and we will advise you of the details as soon as we are in a position to release them. If you are not already subscribed to the Dark City email newsletter service, we suggest that you take the opportunity to do so via the Contact page to ensure that you don't miss out on any important information.

We know that in recent days a number of people have been expressing concerns regarding the venue situation on various forums and the like. We would like to assure you that we are extremely conscious of the need to keep you informed and hope you will understand that in the interests of ensuring the event goes ahead without further complications, a formal announcement of this kind can only be made once arrangements are 100% confirmed.

Whilst it is always disappointing to find ourselves needing to switch venues at such a late stage, we have been fortunate to secure an excellent alternative in the form of The Caves and we are confident that both festival goers and artists alike are in for an equally, if not more, memorable and exciting event as a result of the move.

Thank you for bearing with us and we look forward to seeing you next weekend!
